State Police say so-called rape victim filed false report

WOODBINE - A Middle Township woman who claimed to have been raped by a Woodbine man in late September has now recanted her story and has been charged with filing a false report, State Police said.

Gloria Jean Cipollono, 22, of Green Creek, notified the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office nearly a month after the alleged attack that the man accused of raping her did not, in fact, assault her. Instead, she fabricated the story to hide having sex with that man from her baby’s father, according to detectives at the Woodbine barracks.

On Sept. 30, Cipollono was interviewed by troopers at Cape May Regional Medical Center in Court House after allegedly being assaulted by 36-year-old Jemel Goolsby at a Washington Avenue home in Woodbine. She said she was forced to have unwanted intercourse and identified Goolsby as her attacker, police said.

According to reports, Cipollono said she was preparing to go to sleep when Goolsby entered the room she was in and made numerous sexual advances towards her. He then forced himself on her, resulting in non-consensual sexual intercourse. Authorities said the two were acquaintances.

Goolsby turned himself in later that day after learning he was wanted by the police. He was charged with first degree aggravated sexual assault and lodged in Cape May County Jail on $400,000 full cash bail.

On Oct. 27, Cipollono contacted the Prosecutor’s Office and admitted the sex was consensual, police said.

According to Woodbine detectives, she claimed to have been raped “because she was scared she was going to get pregnant and she didn’t want the father of her baby to find out.”

Cipollono has now been charged with filing a false report to law enforcement, a fourth degree crime.

Goolsby, police said, was released from Cape May County Jail, where he had been since his arrest in September.
