Teen driver busted for pot after trooper spots car weaving on road

By NANCY RUMP

UPPER TOWNSHIP - A Dennis Township teen was charged Thursday with possession of marijuana after a trooper pulled him over for failing to maintain a single lane on Route 49 in Tuckahoe.

State Police Sgt. Dwight Payne said Trooper Patrick Ryan observed a car weaving eastbound on the roadway at its intersection with Weatherby Road at 7:26 p.m. Oct. 30. Ryan stopped the car, a 2001 Ford Taurus, for failing to maintain a single lane.

The driver, Brandon Naperstek, 18, of Dennisville, was asked to exit the vehicle after Ryan detected a strong order of marijuana throughout the car, Payne said. Naperstek was subsequently found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and a smoking pipe, he said.

He was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he received motor vehicle summonses for failure to maintain a single lane of travel and possession of a CDS in a motor vehicle.

Naperstek was later released on his own recognizance pending a hearing at Upper Township Municipal Count.

Two juvenile male passengers that were in the vehicle with him were not charged, Payne said.
