Stabbing Suspect Arrested in Wildwood
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Middle Township Police and the County Prosecutor’s Office announced that the suspect wanted in Tuesday morning’s double-stabbing in Whitesboro on May 13 was arrested in Wildwood Wednesday at approximately 4:15 p.m.
An investigation revealed evidence that Donte Terrel Alston, who had been wanted for stabbing two people outside a residence at Tennessee and Wildwood avenues in the Whitesboro section of the township, was inside a residence in the 4200 block of Pacific Avenue in Wildwood, according to a release from the prosecutor’s office issued Thursday afternoon, May 15.
Members of the prosecutor’s office Major Crime Unit, the Middle Township Major Crime and Street Crime units and the Wildwood Police set up surveillance of the residence and surrounding area, according to the release, and watched Alston leave the residence and get into a car with a female, who was later identified as Jennifer Erhart of North Wildwood.
Wildwood Police stopped the car, and both were arrested without incident, the release said.
On Tuesday, Middle Township Police had received a call at approximately 11 a.m. that two people had been stabbed, and when emergency medical personnel responded, they found Andre Moore and Eric Smith, both of whom were suffering from stab wounds to the torso, said a release from the prosecutor’s office issued earlier Thursday morning. The victims were able to tell police that the person who stabbed them was Donte Terrel Alston, and that Alston and Smith had an on-going dispute that led to the stabbing, according to the release.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Alston and Shannon Conn arrived at the residence at 14 Tennessee Avenue in Conn’s vehicle Tuesday morning, and that the two victims came out of the residence and encountered Alston, who then allegedly stabbed them before leaving the area with Conn, the release said.
After initiating a search, it was reported that Wildwood Police had stopped Conn’s car Tuesday, but Alston was not in the car. Conn was arrested and taken to the Middle Township Police Department, where she was charged with hindering apprehension and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, both third-degree crimes, according to the release.
Alston was charged Wednesday with second-degree aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and hindering apprehension, as well as various weapons offenses, and was committed to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $100,000 cash bail, Thursday afternoon’s release said.
The earlier press release said his victims were treated for their injuries, which were described as non-life threatening.
Thursday afternoon’s release said that Erhart was charged with hindering apprehension, and that she was released on a summons.
