Atlantic City Electric crews continued working around the clock Tuesday to restore service after a powerful coastal storm battered southern New Jersey on Sunday and Monday with heavy rain, high winds and flooding.
Since the storm began, Atlantic City Electric Crews have made more than 100,000 service restorations while battling sustained high winds and heavy downpours. More than 100 outside personnel joined ACE crews on Tuesday to restore service caused by downed trees, limbs and wires.
The company expects to have most customers back in service by late today (Wednesday). After making significant progress on Tuesday, crews are focusing on individual and small groups of customers who are without service. This can be a time-consuming process because it can take just as long for a crew to restore one customer as it does to restore a large group of many customers. It is possible that, given the extent of the damage, some customers may not be restored until Thursday. 
The areas hardest hit by this storm have been Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, and Salem counties.  For the latest outage figures go to www.atlanticcityelectric.com.
Atlantic City Electric reminds the public to keep the following outdoor safety tips in mind following severe weather conditions:
If you see a downed line, assume that it is energized and extremely dangerous. Do not touch the line, but stay clear and report it to Atlantic City Electric by calling 1-800-833-7476.
Never attempt to remove trees or limbs from any utility line. Assume all objects touching a power line are energized.
If using a portable generator during a power outage, always operate it outside and away from doors and windows to avoid deadly carbon monoxide.
For your safety and the safety of Atlantic City Electric employees working to restore power, do not connect your generator directly into your home's main fuse box or circuit panel. Improperly connected generators can feed electricity back into the electrical system, endangering field personnel working to restore your power.
