House party does massive damage, 21 teens charged
A group of teenagers face charges in connection with mid-winter parties in unoccupied houses, including one in which the damages totaled an estimated $35,000, according to Sea Isle City police.
The Sea Isle Police Department announced Thursday, April 3 that two 18-year-old adults and 19 juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
Three homes were broken into, one at 80th Street which received about $1,500 in damage, and anther which was not damaged at all, according to Lt. Dennis Felsing of the Sea Isle City police.
But a beachfront home at 9 60th Street took the worst hit.
According to Felsing, the home was broken into some time in December, and the group held a huge, messy and destructive party. He described the damage to the house as extensive, including glass tables smashed, white shag rugs stained with liquor and regurgitation, and other damage. He said the liquor cabinet was raided thoroughly.
“They just made a mess of the house,” Felsing said.
When the owner visited the city to check on the property, he immediately called the police, Felsing said.
The same house was hit a second time, he said, after the original mess was cleaned up.
Sea Isle City’s south end is a busy place in the summer, but in the off season there is little activity. Felsing said officers canvassed the neighborhood around the damaged home, on either side on across the street, and found no house was occupied.
“No one lives there. It’s all summer residents,” he said.
The teenagers were apparently more interested in having a party than in profit.
“They didn’t steal anything from any of the houses,” Felsing said.
Detectives interviewed several young people before identifying any suspects and eventually making an arrest, he said. Charged were Nicole B. Patroni, 18, of Ocean City, and Bryan Deely, 18, of Sea Isle City, along with 19 juveniles from Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Upper Township and Mikleton
Police do not release the names of juveniles charged.
Additional charges are possible, according to police, although Felsing said police believe they’ve located everyone who participated.
“We think we got everybody,” he said.
Det. Sgt. K. Rohrer and Det. A. Garreffi investigated.
