Administrator: Pier to be closed for weeks
The Ocean City Music Pier will remain closed for “a few weeks” while inspections continue and concrete used to repair the pilings cures, according to city manager Jim Rutala.
That will mean rescheduling or relocating numerous events, including an Easter Sunday sunrise service March 23, which Rutala said would instead take place 6:30 a.m. at the Tabernacle grounds at 550 Wesley Ave.
He said the city awarded a contract for repairs to the pier months ago, but that once the contractor began work, it was decided it would be safer and better for the project to keep people out of the pier while the project continues.
“They’re doing repairs and want to limit the load while the concrete is curing,” Rutala said. “They still have some additional areas to inspect.”
