BURLEIGH—A Whitesboro man was arrested early Sunday morning, police said, for allegedly

robbing a 62-year-old man walking to his car in the parking lot of WaWa here on Route 9.
According to police, Thomas Fields, 56, was charged with armed robbery and several other

offenses after he approached a man outside of the convenience store around 6:22 a.m. and

demanded money at gun point. Police said moments later another patron arrived at the store and

called police after the victim alerted him of the robbery. The victim then ran into the store, police

said, while Fields entered his car and rummaged through the passenger-side compartment and

then fled on his bicycle.
About 10 minutes later police said Fields was spotted behind a nearby home on Starling Ave. and

arrested without incident. Police found a 32 caliber handgun nearby.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Fields was additionally charged with possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for

unlawful purposes. He is being lodged at the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
